CAN logs are only useful if you can move them between tools. SLSS CANAnalyser works with the log formats that engineers already use: Vector ASC and BLF, PEAK TRC, CSV, and its own native formats. This page lists what is supported and how to move data in and out. Vector and PEAK are trademarks of their owners, and SeRoSys is not affiliated with them.

Industry-standard formats

  • Vector ASC: the widely used ASCII log format. ASC files can be imported, and recorded data can be saved as ASC.
  • Vector BLF: the compact binary log format. BLF files can be imported, and recorded data can be saved as BLF. The product lineup lists it alongside ASC and TRC.
  • PEAK TRC: TRC versions 2.0 and 2.1 are supported for import, and recorded data can be exported as TRC.

Other formats

  • CSV: export recorded data, and re-import CSV files that were exported from SLSS CANAnalyser. If your data contains characters that conflict with a comma, choose another delimiter in the Settings menu, and use the same one on import.
  • Excel: export recorded data to Excel. Large exports can take a long time, and CSV, ASC, BLF and TRC exports are much faster.
  • Native formats: .scdf, .scdv and .rcdf for saved sessions.
  • Standalone SD log (.TXT): the dongle’s own format for logs recorded to micro-SD with the Lab CAN Pro.

How to move logs between tools

Exporting from SLSS CANAnalyser

In the CAN Logfile Recorder tab, press Save, use the drop-down to pick CSV, TRC, ASC or BLF, and enter a file name and location.

Importing into the viewer

Open the SLSS CANData Viewer and load the file. Imported data such as .ASC or .BLF appears on the Additional data tab. To use it in the main software, press Save and choose a native SLSS CANAnalyser format. See our logged data viewer guide.

When this helps

  • You have logs from another tool and want to analyse them with a DBC file. See our DBC file viewer guide.
  • You want to share a recording with a colleague who uses a different tool.
  • You log standalone to micro-SD and want to review the files on a PC. See our standalone logging guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert one format to another?

Yes. Load a file in the viewer, save it in a native format, and export from the main software as CSV, TRC, ASC or BLF.

Does this work with both products?

The software works with the Desk CAN Pro and the Lab CAN Pro. See the technical specifications for the hardware differences.
